So, when she catches the attention of Bram Roberts Trenchant—the founder of a group of right-wing supremacists—it leads to a series of encounters that are first comical but then grow more and more deadly.

Trenchant incites his followers by telling them, “This isn’t about the climate, friends. This is about CONTROL. Aliens want to cripple our industry, weaken our economy, and make us sad and vulnerable. You know they’re coming from south of the border and from other continents. But they’re also coming from other worlds. They’re even coming from OUTER SPACE. Can you believe it?”

Resistance to the aliens comes in many forms, the supremacists, the press, the world’s political leaders, and even some of the indigenous peoples themselves. But, in the end, it’s Trenchant’s disillusioned teenage followers who turn on him and do their best to save Faith, her crew, and her mission.

I think you will thoroughly enjoy the compelling, insightful, and often hilarious novel. ‘A Distant Earth’ is full of fun, adventure, and a chilling portrait of the dangers we face in the twenty-first century. Sacrifice by Kathleen Heady.

You will learn some Spanish Civil War History while enjoying ‘Sacrifice’ (book four) in Kathleen Heady’s series. Featuring woman sleuth Nara Blake, each book in the series stands alone, so I invite you to travel with Nara and her husband Alex to Tardienta (a municipality located in Huesca Province, Aragon, Spain) on behalf of the Tate Museum in London, where they both worked as art historians.

The mystery begins when the parish priest discovers notebooks written in English, containing sketches by Felicia Brown. Although a British artist, it is Felicia’s fight against fascism in the 1930s that makes her notebooks a rare find.

Nara and Alex’s visit to Tardienta takes an unexpected turn. It is here, I bring you into the story and the beginning of more than one mystery.

…“From the café, Alex and Nara watched the activity on the plaza. Several police vehicles were parked next to the church when a long black sedan entered the center of the village and parked just past the police cars. A smartly dressed driver emerged to open the back door for a clergyman dressed in a black cassock with red trim.

…“Someone from the diocese,” Alex commented. “I was wondering if the church would have to be re-consecrated since a murder was committed.”

…“They won’t let us look around now,” Nara answered, shielding her eyes from the sun with her hand. She badly wanted to get into the church and maybe the rectory too. The notebooks were there somewhere.

Tardienta is rich with history; there have always been goods and human beings smuggled through the surrounding mountains. For Nara and Alex, the mysteries are numerous, the danger is real and suspicions abound. Turns out it takes more than a village to catch a criminal.

The suspense and drama will keep you turning the page. When you are done, you will be ready to try Maria Laura’s Orange Cake recipe. Can’t wait to bake this one.

Annie Tillery Mysteries book three ‘Secrets In The Fairy Chimneys’ can be summed up as Indiana Jones meets Nancy Drew with the skills and precision of CSI. A mystery unfolds midst a mix of ancient history and modern innovation, in an ageless Eastern country where time moves at a camel’s pace.

Dedicated research by author Linda Maria Frank leaves no stone unturned while great description text transports the reader to the streets of Turkey with its mosques and minarets, towers, and modern buildings. One of my favorite quotes from the book is “Water droplets plunked into the pool from the vaulted ceiling. After the heat of the bazaar and the street chase, it was deliciously cool. Ornate columns with carved capitals supported the ceiling. The bases were decorated with animal and human figures. There were a few visitors, but the enormity of the space muffled their conversations.”

I could smell the odor of clay mixed with a faint herbal scent that must have come from the brush.”

The Colors Of My Life by Linda Burson.

Who ever said that “Lightening doesn’t strike the same place twice” never met Caylie Lyon.

The story opens with Caylie and her husband, Nolan, waiting in the Vanity Falls Savings Bank in Vanity Falls, Maine to close on their new house. Haunted by her frightening ordeal in a grocery store robbery in 2009, Caylie Lyon’s increased awareness of her surroundings tells her something just isn’t right. What happens next, is surreal.

Survival for fifty-two-year-old Caylie will depend on her instincts, perceptiveness, and strangely enough, her infatuation with actor Landon Cordell, not to mention luck.

Even when justice is in motion, strange situations arise. Romance and new dangers take surprising twists and turns in The Colors of My Life by Linda Burson. This is an entertaining read with some strong language.

I enjoyed the story. If you love suspense and fictional romance, you will want to read The Colors of My Life. Also, Author Linda Burson has a 13-book suspense, romantic thriller entitled The Marcy Series, along with a couple of other single title novels.

It is my privilege as Editor at Book Marketing Global Network, to award 5 Stars to ‘The Traveler and Other Short Stories’ by Anthony Arnold.

Anthony is an intellectual scholar, writer, author and poet. He has the aptitude to analyze black historical events. He has a unique perspective and skill to write his impressions about black history: using very descriptive language, short stories and poetry, while weaving a short futuristic tale into his story.

Anthony acknowledges it is not his job to tell his readers everything about black history. Instead, he writes to light a fire under his readers, so they will do their own research. He writes with unabashed honesty and is deeply saddened that the current generation hasn’t learned black history. He is keenly aware they don’t speak about their own family history or even black history in general.

‘The Traveler and Other Short Stories’ takes the reader through some of the trials and tribulation within black history from the first slave ships to the liberation of blacks in America. He tells a futurist tale of “The Traveler’. This traveler is the “last of a space faring race who traveled the galaxy.” These travelers have watched the development of species in thousands of worlds. You must read this book to understand the Traveler’s assessment of earth history and how earth inhabitants treat each other. Does this traveler unlike “The Watchers” refuse to intervene?

This is a thought provoking read. If you read with an open mind, you will be changed, for the better or worse. Author Anthony Arnold words touched my soul.

I enjoyed ‘Death’s Pale Flag’ so much, when author Gary Simonds emailed me about his latest book ‘One Happy Accident’, I find it an honor to be one of the first to read and review it.

Bloody Bess and The Doomsday Games is a magnificent fictional horror drama featuring ancient vampires, teenage romance, and a top-secret military project. The Doomsday Games, as the project is called, involves a team of international scientists, engineers, and military personnel who gather in the ancient town of Murdenwald, Switzerland, to do no less then put an end to war.

Nick Iuppa developed a cast of authentic and unique characters like Elizabeth Laskaar (Duchess of Hungry) known as “Bloody Bess” to her victims in 1580 in the small village of Nyirbator Hungary. She prowled the streets of Murdenwald seeking out young women to murder so that she could bathe in their blood. Her husband Ferenc, some say, is still the director of the town’s ancient library. A most beautiful man with midnight blue eyes, he waits for naïve young women to come to his tower and aid him in his evil work. Then there’s Donny Vito, the world’s greatest film producer, called upon by the U. S. President to breathe life into the Doomsday Games. Elli Capadonico is the girl Donny loved in his youth; she fell victim to Arnie Cudgel, an obsessive young man with both romantic and sadistic intentions. The cast also includes scientists, mathematicians, military personnel, writers, artists, technicians, Chu Yun Trang (the director of a rogue nation seeking to build nuclear weapons), and a myriad of simulated characters who populate the virtual Armageddon.

Nick’s highly descriptive writing takes the reader from the Middles Ages to a 1950s high school romance, to mysteries surrounding the ‘knowledge’ held in the ancient Murdenwald Library, to the International Simulation Center itself where the final challenge becomes solving “the God Problem.” Nick weaves these stories together so skillfully that the separate lines merge to become plot twists in an amazing and unexpected ending.

The author, Nick Iuppa, is the son of a prominent Rochester, New York doctor. Nick attended the University of Notre Dame and did his graduate work at Stanford. Nick’s first job was at MGM Studios in Hollywood where he worked on TV specials with Dr. Seuss and Chuck Jones (creator of the Road Runner). He also had the privilege of writing for the Wonderful World of Disney, working as an instructional designer for Eastman Kodak, leading Bank of America’s in-house TV production group, managing the Learning Technologies Group within Apple Computer, and finally returning to Paramount Pictures in Hollywood where he designed Internet entertainment and built Hollywood-style simulations for the military.

Nick’s extensive travels to Europe have inspired some of his characters and settings. His work history, technical knowledge, and experience have given him the tools and concepts for his novels.

Chapter one finds Laura “studying the growth tanks” where each child will grow to maturity with her son’s DNA. Now in her forties, she finds herself grandmother to many, part human and part alien.

Here is a conversation between Jason and Helena Belmonte in Chapter Eight: “Helena Belmonte suddenly appeared from behind a nearby tree.

…As always, she was dressed in her Eucla clothing: a white dress blouse and dark uniform trousers. Her blond hair flowed free, and her face carried a nervous smile. She carried her tunic under one arm. She doesn’t look like someone trained to kill with one well-placed blow, Jason thought. Still, appearances are deceptive. He briefly wondered how she could have been so stupid as to succumb to the moronic advances of Simon Cordell.

…She took a step towards him. “Can we talk?”

…Jason shrugged and sat down with his back to the wall. Helena came and sat beside him, a metre distant, her slim legs almost up to her chin.

… “I suppose you heard about Simon?” Helena said.

…Jason glanced at her. Her eyes were red from crying. The smile was gone, and her face was a picture of misery.

… “I heard. Did Susan Carmody send you?”

…With tears threatening, she shook her head. “She told me what she had done to Simon, but she did not ask me to speak to you.”

… “I don’t know whether Simon Cordell deserved what he got, and maybe only you can answer that, but I don’t agree with what Susan did.”

…Helena looked into the distance, a faint tremor on her lips. “We were stupid. I was lonely and frightened of this place. It’s not natural. None of it.” She managed a faint smile. “They tell me the aliens will fix his injuries in next to no time.”

… “I don’t think he will bother you again,” Jason said.

… “I can heel-kick as well as any officer here,” Helena declared. “I do have some strength. I think Susan meant well. She was trying to protect me.”

… “One of her girls.”

…Helena almost laughed, then her face grew serious. “I said Susan didn’t send me. She didn’t. It was me who wanted to see you.” She appeared nervous. “You know the aliens more than anybody here. Can I ask you some questions?”

…Jason could feel the tension in her voice, see it in her aura. He just nodded. On Earth, he had been the First Seen. Chosen by the aliens, or, rather, by the RNasia. His vacation with his mother had been savagely interrupted, and he had been forced into adulthood more rapidly than seemed good for his mental well-being. But now, what storms had raged through his mind had abated. Turmoil still existed, but it was a gentle, thought-provoking turmoil, one that led him to accept his role among the human captors. Schooldays were a mere candle in the roar of a nuclear sun, a distant memory buried in a distant world. He remained the First Seen and perhaps would always be so.

…Helena said, “I know we have provided the hybrids for the aliens.

…I know they are supposed to be an improvement on both our races. I even think I understand how they will use them to explore the galaxy without fear of physical or mental degradation.” She turned her face towards Jason, and he saw such a loss of future hope, such despair, that he felt his own strength and beliefs beginning to crumble under an assault of uncertainty. “But I don’t know how the women fit in, even how you and your mother fit in. Have they finished with us?

…Are we eventually to be discarded once the hybrids are free of the tanks? Will we meet them, see our own offspring? And what happens then?” She put her head in her hands. “Will they want more hybrids from us? Will we ever see Earth again?”

…The possibility that the Gliezans would repeat the hybrid experiment on this orbiting station disturbed him. He wondered whether it was the obvious thing for them to do—produce more hybrids with their captives and never return to Earth at all. That would devastate everybody and would rule out the need for interplanetary collaboration.

I highly recommend Death’s Pale Flag by Gary Simonds. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I was surprised by the ending. The story will challenge some of your preconceived ideas while entertaining you with humor, family drama, and the thrill of paranormal activity.

With believable characters, and storytelling that brings your imagination to the edge of space and time, Saving Paludis tells of strange cultures and traditions, alien politics, and cult-like paranormal phenomena. You cannot help but keep turning the pages of this fast-paced interstellar adventure. From a woman’s point of view, here is a glimpse into the story.

This fantasy adventure begins with a castle, and two brothers named Cory and Kyler. The two boys live with their mother, as their dad leaves on a military mission far out at sea.

While the two boys miss their Dad, their Mom home schools them, insisting they keep up their studies.

With simple rhyme and a relatable story, the boy’s study, play with their toys, paint, play music and write. Like typical boys they wrestle and have so much energy that they end up outside, where they climb rocks and swim in the stream.

With play swords, the boys pretend to be soldiers and kings, until it is time to come inside for dinner, a bath and off to bed. Their Mom reads them a bedtime story to them, they say their prayers, and then it is time for sleep.

Suddenly an Angel appears. The boys watch and listen. The message of the Angel is powerful. Seasons come and go, and the boys waited for their father to return. One day a plane flies high in the sky, and out of the plane comes a man, floating to earth with a parachute. Their prayers had been answered; their father is home. Once again, their family is whole.

I encourage you to buy this book and share it with a child in your life. It is a book of hope, especially for children who are separated by a father or mother in the military.

I recommend this book for classroom reading. Great for all types of community, church, and school libraries.

In this very funny and interesting read, a dreamy young Mexican woman name Claudia Madero joins a group who tries to cross the US/Mexican border illegally and is shot at by American vigilantes.

Her aging uncle is mortally wounded in the incident, and – after being returned to her hometown – she partners with a local priest and a successful merchant in an attempt to make a dramatic statement about the negative consequences of US border policies.

Why not recapture the Alamo, she decides, draw the attention of the press, and force an honest debate about the issue?

Of course, there are bungling players on all sides of this comedy, and Claudia and her “Army” end up liberating, not the real Alamo, but a Taqueria designed as a replica of the historic shrine. It doesn’t seem to matter though. The US President decides that he too wants to make a statement and so he sends the US Marines to confront her.

No matter what your political view, we feel that it is important that everyone be informed about both sides of this complex and difficult issue. This is not the time to ignore current events and become a bystander.

If you like Saturday Night Live, you will love this book. I could see some chapters as a skit with the actor Alic Baldwin cast as Donald Trump.

I think you will really enjoy The Battle For The Alamo Taqueria. It is a powerful but humorous presentation of an important side of the immigration issue and perhaps a warning about apocalyptic consequences.

…Jessie opened the doors of an old armoire. “Peyton, you’ve got to see this. We could have a costume party. Would you look at these clothes?” She wrapped a feather boa around her neck and placed one of the vintage hats on her head.

… “I’m not a fan of the feathers, but the hat is you with your golden curls spilling out. You look like you could be one of the women in Monet’s famous garden painting except for your clothes of course.” Peyton jumped when the attic door slammed with a loud bang. “Zip, zip, zip. See what I mean.”

… “I wonder what that’s all about.” Jessie took off the boa and hat. She bent to open the drawer at the bottom of the armoire, but it wouldn’t budge. A second attempt and one hard pull sent her falling backward onto her derrière. The drawer was still firmly closed. “A slamming door and a drawer that won’t open has me more curious than ever. How about you?”
