Format: Kindle Verified Purchase. ‘An Evening with a Psychic’ is an entertaining short story that quickly pulls the reader in with its atmosphere and rising tension. Margarita Felices does a great job of crafting suspense in a small format. You get the sense that something is looming just out of sight, waiting to happen. The pacing keeps the story moving, and it’s easy to read in one sitting, which adds to its charm. While the tension is well-executed, the back-and-forth in time (done to provide backstory for the characters) jarred me out of the narrative flow at times. The characters could have used more depth to make their reactions feel more impactful. Similarly, the supernatural element, though intriguing, felt undeveloped and was deployed abruptly. I would have preferred a more gradual buildup to the shocking ending.
