Kaylin McFarren’s Gehenna Dark Horror Fantasy Series!
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren.
Gehenna Dark Fantasy Series Book One.
While awaiting his execution for murdering his son, Benjamin Poe confesses to his lawyer the true story behind his crime, a harrowing tale of a manipulating, soul-collecting demon named Crighton.
Following Poe’s death, Crighton continues his malevolent duties, until he’s kidnapped by members of The Sovereign Sector. This group of scientists, notorious for experimenting on supernatural creatures, forces Crighton into a soulmate relationship with the very angel he was sent to capture for Lucifer.
However, with secrets revealed and loyalties shifting, Crighton soon becomes the target of Lucifer’s revenge, and his journey to redemption and freedom—or eternal enslavement—begins.
5 Stars: Compelling story will draw you into the plight of Benjamin Poe!
The story is told by Firefighter, Benjamin Poe. The location is the Lochton Correctional Institute. Within the concrete walls of this maximum-security prison, Benjamin Poe waits on death row. Legal Counselor, Pierce Beaudoin has agreed to hear Benjamin’s account of who his intended victim was, when he put six shots into his son, Gabriel.
For those of us who follow Award Winning Author Kaylin McFarren, her new paranormal mystery “Soul Seeker” will resound, as one of her best.
Chapter One opens as Benjamin Poe goes about his normal routine. That is until Benjamin’s fire house responds to multiple alarms at 2381 Hudson Drive. The Fire at the College Inn was the beginning of the end. This event will mark the time Benjamin Poe discovers that the world is full of monsters, with dark souls, waiting to devour humans. This tale examines the role of a “soul seeker” as it reveals the impending fate of Benjamin Poe.
I bring you into the story in Chapter 21 where Lucifer is “pacing before his massive throne”.
…His bare feet pounded the chiseled stone floors, echoing throughout the room. Demons in the royal hall kept their heads down, avoiding eye contact while keeping a safe distance. Lucifer was in such a foul mood that he would kill them on the spot if they drew any negative attention.
…Crighton’s mother, Acadia, stood at the side of his throne, fidgeting with worry. For more than forty-nine human years, she had stood by him, a trophy in his dark kingdom for others to envy and admire. Time had no relevance, and each year in Hell was twice as long as Earth years, and a hundred times harder for Acadia.
…The devil’s voice boomed out from the darkness. “Where is he? If your son tells me he failed, I’ll cut off an arm.”
…He halted his steps and turned to his assistant. A glimpse of satisfaction sparked in the devil’s smile.
… “Is he right or left-handed?”
… “Lucifer, just give him a few more hours!” Acadia pleaded. The devil’s threat was causing her hands to tremble. “You know that humans have been capturing our kind more than ever before. I’ve heard rumors that the Sovereign Sector is active again. They are responsible for the deaths of more than fifteen of our kind, and I fear for Crighton’s safety.”
… “Hmm . . . a few more hours? Your son hasn’t failed me yet, but do not defend him if he comes back without a soul. If that happens and humans are responsible, a swift punishment will be delivered. He’s been training for decades and should be able to handle any- thing those weak fools could throw at him. He even had theology training to use scripture against foolish, religious beings.”
Within this one man’s story, Author Kaylin McFarren creates a new narrative, about the battle between good and evil. In “Soul Seeker” by Kaylin McFarren, the author uses fantasy, to explore a theoretical world, where relationships between angels and demons exist.
This compelling story will draw you into the plight of Benjamin Poe. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I invite you to read all Kaylin McFarren’s books: ‘Soul Seeker’, ‘Banished Threads’, Buried Threads’, ‘Severed Threads’, ‘Twisted Threads’, ‘Flahertys Crossing’, and ‘High Flying’.

*****
From The Author: We would all like to believe that a heavenly being is ever present in our lives — watching over us, whispering messages of hope, protecting us from threatening situations, and guiding us through the inevitable stupidity we inflict upon ourselves. When it comes to subjects regarding these feathery benefactors, there are a remarkable number of books written regarding near-death experiences and visitations, often in the most unlikely places. There are also a great many books that concentrate on the battle of good and evil and, occasionally, a fallen angel or two that we tend to sympathize with, even though we’re not supposed to.
Years ago, as an avid reader, I thoroughly enjoyed picking up a racy novel from time to time, especially when the story dealt with forbidden love. I found myself, as readers often do, beseeching the bad guy to see the light and end his evil ways. Or the handsome, musclebound rogue to curtail his philandering, after meeting the love of his life. Every action-packed romance story is an escape from reality — a way to live precariously through characters in an imaginary world where the victorious hero walks away with the prize of his or her victory.
Every book I write includes a large serving of suspense and adventure, and there’s always a romantic encounter to top it off, simply because I enjoy the uplifting feelings these invoke. However, this book, in many ways, is very different from anything I’ve written before. While bringing together these page-turning genres, I also incorporated a touch of fantasy, by creating a surreal, theoretical world in which relationships between angels and demons exist. This is done purely for the enjoyment of my readers and not a declaration of my religious beliefs. So please enjoy this story with an open mind and overlook any errors in my imagination.

5 Stars: “Satan consumes souls and is coming for yours.”
For those of us who read Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren, Annihilation is the long-awaited sequel. Keep in mind that Soul Seeker is the story of a maligning demon told by firefighter, Benjamin Poe. Within the concrete walls of the maximum-security prison, Poe hopelessly waits on death row. His fate marks the beginning of the battle between good and evil, where relationships between humans, angels, and demons do exist.
Author Kaylin McFarren begins Annihilation with a poem, as she does with all of her books, preparing readers for what is about to unfold. “So, latch windows, lock doors, turn on every light, horned demons are coming in the dark of night. Beware of the shadows in long corridors, Satan consumes souls and is coming for yours.” This sets the stage for a frightening, unforgettable tale.
The Prologue for Annihilation begins with the following scene: “The nightmare rushed back into Samara Daemonium’s thoughts, leaving her gasping for air. Tangled up in her sweat-soaked sheets, she stared down at the demon-killing knife half-hidden in her nightstand drawer. A twist of darkness remained tightly coiled around the blade, concealing any trace of blood still clinging to it, but the horrifying memory of how it was used would be seared in her mind forever. Was it only two months ago when it happened? When her world came crashing down?”
As the story progresses, it is the ‘Beginning of the End’ when two regiments of ram-horned, cloven-hoofed demons march through the blazing corridors of Hell in preparation for the Red War against Heaven. McFarren invites you into her dark fantasy, where a demonic community, based on the normality of our human existence, resides in some weird twelfth-dimension universe. This absorbing story focuses primarily on Samara Daemonium, Crighton’s rebellious daughter, and introduces some unforgettable characters along the way. In this second installment in the Gehenna Series, Samara faces the challenges of surviving on Middle Earth and in the Underworld, and believe me, this story isn’t for the faint of heart. In fact, Annihilation is truly absorbing, shocking at times, and virtually impossible to put down!
I invite you to read Annihilation (Gehenna Book 2) by award-winning author Kaylin McFarren, but don’t forget to read Soul Seeker (Gehenna Book 1), which introduces you to this paranormal/supernatural series. Next enjoy her popular Threads psychological thriller series, and finish with her book Flaherty’s Crossing, as we patiently wait for the third book in the Gehenna Series to be written.

From The Author: The apocalypse was supposed to happen on October 21, 2011. American radio host Harold Camping had arrived at this prescribed date through a series of calculations that he claimed were based on Jewish feast days and the lunar calendar. In addition to his claims about the end of the world, he also predicted that on May 21, 2011, at precisely 6:00 p.m., God’s elect people would be assumed into heaven, in an event he called the Rapture. Those who were not raptured, he said, would have to remain on Earth to wait for their doom five months later. According to media reports, some of his followers quit their jobs, sold their homes, and invested large amounts of money in publicizing Camping’s predictions. When the Rapture did not occur, Camping re-evaluated his predictions saying that the event would take place simultaneously with the end of the world. After October 21, 2011, the self-proclaimed prophet stated that “nobody could know exactly when the time of the apocalypse would come.”
Exactly. So, why do we continue to dwell on the end of time when we’re enjoying the best years of our lives now? When the world stops spinning, hopefully not for at least 5,000 years, we can only pray that future generations appreciate the sacrifices made by past generations, and that the beauty that surrounds them continues to thrive. The creations and inventions that brilliant minds develop on a daily basis will someday surpass anything we’ve imagined possible. In my younger years, there were no cell phones, personal computers, or flat-screen televisions. Now, everything seems to be designed around comfort, flexibility, beauty, and affordability. However, while I’m living and breathing on this planet, poking fun at our “normal” existence and expectations by producing colorful, off-the-wall literature will remain to be my greatest pleasure.
Isn’t it more fun to believe that a demonic community, based on the normality of our human existence, resides in some weird twelfth-dimension universe, welcoming demons, and angels into their fold? This is why I write…simply to stretch the imagination and to thoroughly entertain. —Kaylin McFarren

Requiem For A Queen by Kaylin McFarren.
Gehenna Dark Fantasy Series Book Three.
Forced into captivity by Lucifer and crowned as his queen, Samara Daemonium struggles daily with her identity and daunting duties in Hell. She belongs to a race of Nephalem—hybrid beings who are half angel and half demon—and although she wields the powers of both supernatural species, she has yet to discover her formidable prowess and potential.
In the Outer Rim of Hell, Lucinda continues to plot her father’s demise and her ascension to the throne. Believing Lucifer plans to bypass her as Hell’s next ruler, she kidnaps his new heir and has every intention of killing him.
Meanwhile, Samara is faced with the threat of death for her part in an invasion. Her survival depends on revealing a dark secret, giving her no choice but to depend on Lucifer and his Tracker Demons.
Ultimately, Samara’s journey to self-discovery instills in her the importance of family and friends, and reminds her that belief in the impossible is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.
Reviews:
“The beauty might not hit you until after you’ve finished the whole thing. Readers who enjoy occult and fantasy will LOVE Requiem for a Queen.” – Manik Chaturmutha, Independent Book Review
“I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing story from start to finish. If you love dark paranormal stories and supernatural fantasy, be sure to read all three books in the Gehenna series: Soul Seeker, Annihilation and Requiem For A Queen.” -Theodocia McLean, Book Marketing Global Network
5 Stars: Samara Daemonium’s strength and resilience never ceases to amaze.
For those of us who are completely absorbed in the dark fantasy Gehenna series by award-winning author Kaylin McFarren, I can only say, “Read on!” For anyone who hasn’t experienced a book in this series, I urge you to begin with book one, Soul Seeker, and continue reading each book in this jaw-dropping series until you reach the end. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did!
Requiem For A Queen (book three) has been highly anticipated, and I assure you, it is well worth the wait. No matter which book in the series you’ve chosen to read, the passion, drama, and intrigue is mind boggling. Demons thrive and battle for power in the “creature world” McFarren has created, and while each story focuses primarily on Lucifer and his power-hungry daughter, Lucinda, a new up-and-coming hero is in making. Samara Daemonium, a Nephilim being, is flexing her muscles in this book and proving she’s a force to be reckoned with.
As this story unfolds, the Red War continues to rage between Heaven and Hell, and Samara Daemonium is being hunted by the entire kingdom of Hell. She finds her way to the sand cave where the Shapeshifter, Onoskelis, is hiding from Queen Lucinda. As if the threat of death isn’t enough, Samara gives birth to Lucifer’s son, wrenching up the tension in this page-turning story.
Lucinda separates Samara from her son and is determined to eliminate the new heir to the throne. While searching for him, Samara is captured by Lucifer once again and faces the threat of death for her part in an invasion. Seeing no way out, she reveals the secret of Papillon’s birth and is ultimately left with no choice but to depend on Lucifer and his tracker demons.
As the search for her son continues, Samara’s strength and resilience is put to the test. But that’s not all. Botis, a demon hunter, is on a quest to find Lucifer and to stop the atrocities committed against angels and humans alike. Are they on a collision course in this complex, plot-driven story? Will Samara end up being a lost soul in Hell or a defiant angel in Heaven?
I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing story from start to finish. If you love dark paranormal stories and supernatural fantasy, be sure to read all three books in the Gehenna series: Soul Seeker, Annihilation and Requiem For A Queen. I understand a fourth book is currently in the works too, and there’s no way of knowing where this fascinating cast of characters will end up next.

*****
From The Author: According to Perry Bysshe Shelley, “Power, like a disease, pollutes whatever it touches.” In other words, many characters in literature become corrupted because of their quest for power. I fully agree with Shelley that power “pollutes everything that it touches” because having too much power concentrated in the hands of one person leads to a dictatorship and has bad consequences. “Power is the root of all evil” is another interpretation of Shelley’s statement. This idea is demonstrated in the plays Hamlet and Macbeth, both by William Shakespeare, in which major characters lead themselves to their downfall by trying to become the most powerful person in the room. In fact, in both plays many major characters die because of one person’s ambition to become a powerful king.
In Hamlet, Claudius murders his brother, marries his former sister-in-law, and ascends to the throne of Denmark. These three deeds are performed by a shrewd and self-serving man. The king will do almost anything to protect the throne, in spite of knowing that he did not rightfully earn it. He resorts to underhanded tactics such as spying, manipulation, and deceit in order to overcome whatever he perceives as a threat to his supreme position. But what if a power-hungry queen was the culprit in this play? Would she be viewed simply as a figure head and remain neutral with respect to political matters? Or would she be the ultimate bitch? By convention, the queen does not vote or stand for election. She is purely a figure head in more ways than one, and maintaining relevant relationships is her singular focus and primary responsibility.
But what if the queen controlled the military? What if she craved an all-encompassing position in government, like her father before her? What if she could be the ultimate ruler of Hell? Ambition drives this story like many others. But what makes this story unique is the length the queen will go to in order to steal the throne she craves. Doesn’t this make a far more interesting scenario? A tale about the extreme measure a woman would go to in order to obtain the power she believes she deserves? Now, that’s the kind of book I would read and definitely write.

Black Wing Sky by Kaylin McFarren.
Epic Fourth Installment In The Gehenna Series!
When Lucifer’s soldiers captured his brother, the Seven-Star General of the Archangel Army of Heaven, Samara Daemonium thought it was the turning point in the war. Victory for Hell was on the horizon, as was a peaceful future with her soulmate, Damian Hunter.
Now, a deadly new threat on Earth’s sister planet has emerged. Fire-breathing dragons are being led by Vetis Kidadl, otherwise known as the Black Dragon, and he’s determined to destroy Nexus and all its inhabitants. After volunteering to help Blade Saxe defeat this invader, Samara is tasked with finding a weapon strong enough to kill him—a mission made more difficult when she’s kidnapped and forced into submission by none other than Kidadl himself.
In this epic fourth installment in the Gehenna series, two thought-provoking questions arise. Can Samara defeat the Black Dragon, return to Middle Earth with her son, and find the happiness she so richly deserves? Or will Lucifer and his daughter Lucinda succeed in destroying the entire Daemonium family?

From The Author: I’ve come to believe life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a practically new, well-preserved body, but rather the overdue delivery of a thoroughly used up, totally worn-out body that merits proclaiming loudly, “Wow, what a ride!”
That is how I’ve led my life thus far and will continue to do so.
What inspires me most is the number of people in this world who risk it all with no barriers or perimeters securely tied in place. They experience all life has to offer and don’t look back with regrets or what-ifs. That old adage applies in this case. Life brings tears, smiles and memories, The tears dry, the smile fades, but the memories live inside you forever.
I have learned my lessons the hard way. After two suffering strokes and being left with inability to talk, I simply carry on with my writing and dismiss the small stuff. I hide my sorrows under a smile and take one a day at a time. I’ve discovered by reaching my limit of productivity and exceeding it is not nearly as important as my family’s unconditional support when I need it most.
From The Inside Flap: RELUCTANCE

About The Author: Kaylin McFarren has received 48 national literary awards, in addition to a prestigious Golden Heart Award nomination for FLAHERTY’S CROSSING – a book she and her oldest daughter, New York Times/USA Today best-selling author Kristina McMorris, co-wrote in 2008.
Prior to embarking on her writing journey and developing the popular THREADS psychological thriller series, she poured her passion for creativity into her work as the director of a fine art gallery in the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon; she also served as a governor-appointed member of the Oregon Arts Commission.
When she’s not traveling or spoiling her pups and three grandsons, she enjoys giving back to her community through participation and support of various charitable and educational organizations in the Pacific Northwest, and is currently the president of the Soulful Giving Foundation – a non-profit focused on cancer research, care and treatment at hospitals throughout Oregon.
Fun Tidbits:
Kaylin is proud of the fact that her great aunt Bessie B. Cordell, an evangelistic missionary during WWII, was instrumental in opening an orphanage in Tientsin, China and also wrote two published novels, Precious Pearl and Blossoms of the Flowery Kingdom, documenting her dangerous, harrowing experiences.
She keeps a glass of wine close by while writing love scenes, Kleenex on her desk while writing heart breakers, and has been known to empty a box of chocolates when she’s completely stumped.
A consummate “pantser” and perfectionist, she writes and edits as she goes, and uses photographs of models and actors from tabloid magazines to visualize her characters.
She loves her husband of 46 years dearly. However, if Josh Holloway, Hugh Jackman or Ian Somerhalder came knockin’, well… their marriage just might be put to the test.
On A Personal Note: Kaylin sat before her computer writing Flaherty’s Crossing as a source of personal therapy after losing her beloved father to colon cancer. You might say she was angry at him, at God, at the world in general. However, after writing this story, she had the opportunity to really look into her soul and consider the fact that so many other sons and daughters have had to deal with similar and even worse situations.
Rather than a memoir, her novel evolved into a fictional journey which brought about the resolution she needed to find. She never expected this exercise in writing to go to press, touch lives, or win literary awards. But as a result of her good fortune, she has arranged for proceeds from the sale of this book to go directly to the Providence Medical Foundation’s colon cancer research department in her father’s name. She’s now convinced and proudly shares her belief that good things can grow out of the worst times in our lives if you just take the time to open your heart.
