The Sitcom Murders by Nicholas Victor (aka Nick Iuppa)

The Sitcom Murders 1 by Nicholas Victor (aka Nick Iuppa).

Sexy Sixties Sitcom.

What if the heroine of an immensely popular television sitcom suddenly learned that her show was being turned into a horror series by a deranged screenwriter? What if she was able to drive over to the writer’s home and confront him? What if she then learned that he was able to give her the power to defend herself and even begin to love the murder and mayhem of HORROR? And then, after she had eliminated three homicidal maniacs, he explained that he had more work for her… more sitcom murders.

5 Stars: Dark Comedy About The Sexy Sixties!

This first installment of The Sitcom Murders is a dark comedy about a sexy sixties TV character who suddenly realizes that her TV show has become a horror story and she just might be the first victim.

Lacy Livingood, the TV heroine, is home alone when a madman suddenly begins breaking down her kitchen door. Terrified by his hideous stocking mask and threats of rape and murder, Lacy beats him off with a frying pan, then rushes to her car and drives across LA to find the show’s writer. She’s not sure what to expect, but aging screenwriter Billy Edelman explains it all.

“Ya know, for a girl half the world thinks is brilliant, you’re a little slow on the uptick,” Billy answered. “You and Johnny and Ronnie are characters, in a sitcom, a very popular one fifty years ago. Look at this.” And with that Edelman clicked a link and entered eBay. He typed in “Lacy Livingood” and pages and pages of Lacy Livingood memorabilia confronted him: autographed photos, scripts from the show, clothes she had worn.

“But our show’s not on anymore,” Lacy whispered.

“People’re always lookin’ for somethin’ fresh,” Billy answered. “If not new characters, at least old characters in new stories. And that’s what I’ve given them.”

“So now I’m the main character in a horror story,” Lacy said at last. “Okay. But if I have to be in this show of yours, at least teach me how to defend myself. You can do that much for me can’t you?”

And Billy could; in fact, he could help Lacy learn to enjoy murder as much as his villains… but with dire consequences.

Author Nicholas Victor (aka Nick Iuppa) has given us something never seen before, a TV sitcom character who actively conspires with her show’s living writer to defeat the bad guys. There is a fine line between reality and fiction, TV characters and real people, self-preservation and blood lust. And sexy Lacy finds herself right at the crossroads of everything and loving it.

I think you’ll find yourself as curious as I am about where the author will go with this new series…and just who Lacy Livingood will murder next.

Review by Celia: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. A Sexy Sitcom Star Becomes the Ultimate Murderess. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 24, 2019. Verified Purchase. The golden age of classic TV sitcoms gets a naughty and unexpected revamp in this delightfully grisly tale from Nicholas Victor.

Life is good for Lacy Livingood. She has the perfect house in glamorous 1960’s suburbia, not to mention the perfect family. So why oh why is a bloodthirsty murderer trying to kill her? Even more important…why does she seem to like it every time she pulls the trigger? Lacy wants answers, and she wants them now. It seems like the only one who can help is an old man named Billy Edelman, the successful screen writer. But when Billy reveals the astonishing truth, it takes a moment for Lacy to wrap her head around this new revelation. Could this explain her excellent marksmanship? As the old man convinces her that there’s more adventures in store, Lacy suddenly finds herself eager to play along. What was once terrifying now seems almost pleasurable. More blood must be spilled, and it becomes clear that Lacy must be the one to do it. Determined to save her family from annihilation, she sets out on a journey to New York to find her next victim. If everything goes as planned, Lacy may just find herself catapulted into the spotlight; the sexiest villain that ever was.

A writer’s relationship with his characters is always complex, and “The Sitcom Murders” plays with this idea while paying homage to such classic sitcoms as The Dick Van Dyke Show. Part comedy, part horror, the novel manages to be both hilariously funny and exhilarating as we watch Lacy Livingood embrace her alter ego. As we shall see, anything is possible when a writer and his characters join forces to unleash murder and mayhem. There are vivacious side characters that lend the narrative a slapstick touch; Heather Whatnot, Lacy’s lusty but dimwitted neighbor, and Captain Louie DeMarco, “three hundred pounds of prime LAPD.” And while the blood and gore may be too much for some, die-hard fans of the pulpy film genre (think Tarantino) will be more than satisfied with the quick pacing, ample blood lust, and sexual overtones.

Like a wicked thrill, “The Sitcom Murders” is your next carnal indulgence.

Review by DT: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Clever idea! Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 26, 2019. Verified Purchase. In this clever novella, the heroine of a ‘60s sitcom suddenly realizes the story has changed to one of horror. But she also discovers the writer has given her the skills to defend herself. Why has the writer done this? Ratings, of course. And the twist is that she begins to like murder. There’s lots of territory to mine with classic sitcoms and this story looks like the first in a series.

Review by Marc Wade: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Fiction meets Reality. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 24, 2019. Verified Purchase. This first work of fiction by new author Nicholas Victor is a clever homage to a certain sitcom star. The unique twist is the interaction between the sitcom’s screenwriter and his fictional heroine. He begins to torment her with a new, horrific direction for her character in an effort to launch her into a contemporary series. The first of what might be several installments is an intriguing introduction to this reality-bending world.

Review by Bridget Ball: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Short, fun, and unique. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 6, 2022. Lacey Livingood is the leading lady of a beloved sitcom and her series is about to be rebooted. The new series is written by her original screenwriter, now deranged, and transforming her sitcom into a horror series. The relationship between the character and the writer is met head-on as he reveals more of his plans for her… and we are along for the ride!

This book is theatrical and exciting as well as witty and scary. I love how the character is able to talk to the writer and break the rules to turn everything on it’s head. This book is short and perfect to throw in your bag to read on the plane or a lunch break. It is great for a book club read because it will bring tons of discussion to the table due to the incredible plot. This is the first book in the Sitcom Murders series and I can’t wait to get my hands on more.

Review by Gershon Weltman: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. An Inside Job. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 4, 2019. This is an imaginative and lively twist on characters having a life of their own and interacting with their author, which could only have been written by someone deeply familiar with television screenwriting. As Victor has his TV writer say: “That’s the way it is with writers, you know. Their work is always a collaboration between them and their characters.” The multiple murders add blood and gore, but not in an off-putting way. Altogether a great addition to hardboiled-horror-noire in novella form.
