Author J.C. De Ladurantey uses his forty plus years of law enforcement experience and street savvy to bring his readers into his ‘A Howard Hamilton Ride-Along’ series. ‘INSIDE’ brings the reader into the inner sanctorum of today’s law enforcement. Ride along with Officer Howard Hamilton of Orchard Hill PD and discover for yourself the mysteries that surround our brave men and women in blue, the administrative bureaucracy that controls every aspect of law enforcement, and how this bureaucracy helps and/or harms our community.
This fictional, complex and intriguing story is told with insider knowledge and integrity. Officer Hamilton is learning everything he can about open-source intelligence. He is “developing the skill to investigate hacking cases, data removal, high-tech criminal investigations, online child solicitation, abduction, kidnapping, and cold case homicides – anything that used technology. He is in his element as he expanded into understanding terrorist databases and other high-level intrusions into a world he never had known existed.”
The characters reflect our brave men and women in blue doing their jobs. The situations portrayed on the clock are intense. Life and death split second decisions are made. The scrutiny and magnification of law enforcement’s actions and imperfections are intensified in the media, courtrooms and in public perceptions. Due to the realistic depiction of life in a police department, significant profanity and explicit sexual content, I recommend this book for ages 16 and up.
I especially enjoyed the conversations and comradery within the work environment. I found the everyday home and family drama made the characters very relatable. The life within the community shared brought a sense of humanity, along with the daily struggle between good and evil.
Let me bring you into the story: “Hamilton could not concentrate on what was in front of him. He flashed back eight years when his life with Clare and the kids was so simple. He patrolled a city with very little violent crime, almost no major drug problem other than weed in the high schools, and never the contentious issues he has been involved in since being assigned to Narcotics and Vice. Chaos seemed to reign once outside the city limits of Orchard Hill. Inside Orchard Hill was just fantasy land now. Do we need to go out of the city to protect our city, or do we patrol the perimeter to ensure evil doesn’t enter?”
Our law enforcement is tasked with keeping communities safe. All they ask in return, acknowledgment of the complexities of the job, respect for each officer’s commitment to serve, and the ability to return home to their family at the end of their shift.
