The Poetry of History by Jeff Rimland.
The Poetry of History is unique. It contains photographs, descriptions, and poetry of historical figures and events. The photographs and descriptions are authentic, but the poetry is the Author’s interpretation and historically accurate.
These events and historical figures are placed in chronological order, going as far back in history as 1014 A.D. There have been some key events and key dates that represent so much. Whether it be history taking place thousands of years ago, or taking place in the 20th or 21st century, the events have had an indelible effect on the psyche
No matter what events or historical figures have shown us, we all should try to live by the edict; remember history lest we are doomed to repeat it
Review by Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, Author and Historian: “Jeff Rimland intricately weaves history through his gift of beautifully written poetry, in a way that will make the reader both ponder and reflect on the people and events who have changed the course of history for better or for worse.”
Review by Ron Scott, Nassau County Poet Laureate: “The Poetry of History by Jeff Rimland takes us on a journey that is both educational and entertaining. Each epic historical event is complemented with unique poetry. It can be read chronologically or randomly without losing impact. Warning: Whatever page you choose, you’ll be tempted to turn to the next. Riveting work is testament to a seasoned author. Read and enjoy.”
Review by Dr. David B. Axelrod, Fulbright, and Poet Laureate: “It is fascinating to watch which aspects of history are singled out by Jeff Rimland. He creates both a personal and poetic overview of our history. By casting facts (and pictures) into a personal perspective, he not only serves as our teacher, but he gifts us a personal legacy.”
Review by Anne Coltman: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. A Unique Book of History. Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2022. Jeff Rimland’s Poetry of History is a historical treasure that not only awakens the memory but also stirs the emotions. Review by Lois W. Stern, Author, Creator of tales2inspire: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. A most original blending of prose and poetry. Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2022. A book original both in design and craftsmanship, historical events are each depicted first with introductory remarks and photos, with each then followed by a page with a free form poem crafted by the author. The Poetry of History will help readers enliven both their memory and emotions to times we only read about in history books as well as those of our recent past. From Florence Nightingale to our current political climate, will these pages help enliven our better angels? I certainly hope so.
Review by Dan Mariani Author – Bicycling With A Purpose: Shift Gears to Lower Stress, The Road to Chapulepec Park: Surviving The Big Freeze: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Great Compilation of Poems Instructing Us About History. Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2022. In Jeff Rimland’s book The Poetry of History he reminds us that people who forget history are doomed to repeating the same mistakes.
He takes us through history with a chronological potpourri of lyrical poems that capture key events of the planet’s history, from 1014 AD to modern day.
Highlights are poems around WWI and WWII, the Battle of Gettysburg, Joan of Arc, the Kennedy Brothers, the Wright Brothers, and the great Spanish Flu of 1918.
I really like the way he weaved poetry into history or if you prefer, presented history through the eye of poetry. Either way it was a delight to read and a worthwhile investment in time.
You will surely find something you like or identify with that will awaken your consciousness to something lurking in your mind that you forgot that was useful and important.
It did so to me, for that alone I highly recommend The Poetry of History to anyone who thinks that historical lessons have something to teach us.
