Sewell, is a classic police procedural mystery thriller. A serial killer is on the loose in a small British village. The clues all point to one person, but that person has a rock-solid alibi. Rupert Parsons, a retired coper, is pulled off the shelf to help with cold cases, and along with his partner, also working in law enforcement, Joyce Parsons, they start to see a trend – a series of missing women over many years, all of them more or less the same age, and all of them drawn to the same, inexplicable place before they disappear. Sewell does a great job of hanging the reader over a cliff, waiting for the final card to drop – the one that exposes the killer. It’s good suspense, and very real police investigatory procedure, old-school style investigation as they follow the clues, one body at a time. Moreover, as the author reveals in the book description, some 2000 people disappear every day in the United Kingdom, some of whom never resurface, and that statistic is a haunting one, made very real by the plot in this story. Five stars!
