Broose The Moose On The Loose by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Broose is a sad moose who has no friends until he meets a young boy. Read what happens when Broose meets a boy with the same name as he.

Review:  Broose the Moose was lonely. He had no friends. The other moose laughed at him because Broose was hurt by a bear. Now he had a big scar. One day Broose the Moose was walking in the woods when he noticed a little blond boy, playing with a toy. There was something different about the boy. One of his legs wasn’t very strong. Broose became friends with the little boy. Then he had something special to smile about. Broose found out he had something else in common with the little blond boy who limped. The illustrations are cute and colorful. The message of acceptance and friendship is most important. Children, parents, grandparents and teachers will value this story and enjoy it. I highly recommend this wonderful story by award-winning author, Janice Spina review by children’s author, Deanie Humphrys-Dunne  Mrs.D.5.0 out of 5 stars A Message of Acceptance and Friendship Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2018Another wonderful book by the talented team of Janice and John Spina. The lesson of kindness and understanding is one that children must learn at a very early age. It is easy to be judgmental and mean, but children must first understand what compassion and kindness means.

A vicious bear clawed Broose the Moose at a very early age, leaving him with a scar on his face. Even though Broose looked threatening because of his scar, it did not stop the other moose from teasing him.

The sad loner wanders alone through the forests until he meets a similar loner, a boy with a limp leg. Nobody wants to play with the boy, and he spends his time away from the other children. The two become friends, very different by nature but so similar in their situations.

The author and illustrator have created a sweet, simple tale, easy to understand for a young child. The rhyme style was a bonus, and the illustrations enhanced the story. The message of acceptance and friendship is highlighted clearly: accept people for what they are. I love this story because it will bring a very needed discussion to homes, schools, and reading clubs. Children will remember the valuable lesson this book conveys. I applaud the gifted team of Janice and John Spina for another great teaching story.

From The Author: This book is meant to help children understand and accept differences in others. All my books have an underlying theme of life lessons that encourage children to be kind, caring and accepting of others. I hope that your children and grandchildren will learn these valuable lessons at the same that they enjoy reading my stories with the lovely illustrations created by my husband.

Clarence Henry The Hermit Crab by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world?

Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lives in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank.

He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells.

We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.

Review by Mrs.D.: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. In the Water World. “Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab” is a wonderful story, based on a true story supported by real pictures. Apparently author Janice Spina and her husband, the illustrator, took real pleasure in observing this resilient creature in their fish tank.

The hermit crab was their pet, which was missing a claw and one of his legs. The story disclosed a few challenges that newcomer met while growing his new claw and leg. Smart, hardworking, and tough, the courageous crab dealt with his disabilities bravely as he moved ahead to his full recovery. He worked hard, keeping himself busy cleaning the tank and getting along with other occupants in his new home.

The photos and facts about hermit crabs that the Spina’s share with the readers are educational and entertaining. The facts about the life of these resilient water creatures are an extra bonus. This book will make a good, useful source for teachers and homeschooling and readers like me, people who have no knowledge about the crabs.

Clarence Henry teaches children to have patience, dedication, and stay strong while going through their own tests. The ailing crab did not give up. Instead, he worked hard and bravely overcame his obstacles. He may have felt different from the other occupants in the tank, but it did not stop him from focusing on his goal.

As in other inspiring books by the Spina’s, children will enjoy this book for many reasons: a true teaching story, educational facts, fascinating photos, and the message this book conveys. Never, never, never, never give up!

From The Author: Clarence Henry was a real hermit crab who lived in a fish tank in our home. My husband took care of him. We took photos of Clarence Henry in action. I even have a video of him changing shells. It was amazing. We share some photos in the back of this book along with some facts about hermit crabs. I hope you will enjoy them.

Jeffrey The Jittery Giraffe by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Jeffrey is a nervous giraffe due to a terrible storm on the day of his birth. He remembers that day and is frightened of any kind of noise or unexpected things happening to him. His mother tells him that he is stronger than he thinks. One day Jeffrey meets another giraffe who needs his help. Read this story in rhyme and find out what important lesson Jeffrey learns when he thinks of others before himself.

Review by Mrs. D. : 5.0 out of 5 Stars. An Important Lesson Is Learned! Jeffrey is a scared little giraffe who worries too much. Afraid of his own shadow, he clings to his mother. But smart Mama taught him a little trick: a poem he could say when he was frightened. It did not help until one day, something unpredictable happened. It changed Jeffrey’s attitude and provided the solution that the little giraffe needed.

I must admit, I love Janice Spina’s books, and I am sure children love them too. In this particular book, children will learn how to solve problems and find solutions.

Through the strong narrative, the author conveys a great message to young kids, teaching them how to overcome their insecurity and self-doubts, while building self-esteem and self-confidence. It is a great reminder that there is no limit to improving yourself, and that it always pays to be kind and sensitive to the needs of others.

Children will relate to the simple illustrations done in a child-friendly manner, created by John Spina. They complement Janice’s story, which flows easily and effortlessly.

Jerry The Crabby Crayfish by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Jerry is a crabby crayfish who all day long wishes he could be a fish. One day something happens in the fish tank that makes Jerry change his mind. Read about the valuable lesson Jerry learns.

Review by By Chris Graham aka The Story Reading Ape: A great little story with a moral. A lovely little rhyming story, with accompanying coloured drawings that are delightful and well done. The story about Jerry, a crayfish whose only wish is to be a fish and swim around freely instead of being stuck in his hard shell-like body, is a good way to let little readers (and listeners) understand that everyone has a value and what is wished for is not always the best thing.

Review by Werner Stejskal “Author and Producer”: It is alright. I can be me! Another educational little book by Janice Spina. It teaches us to be happy with who we are. Children learn that sometimes they are capable of tasks others cannot perform and that will make them more confident in themselves. Lovely hand-drawn pictures again to join the world of pre-primary and primary school children. I thoroughly enjoyed this little excursion into the aquarium! You will too!

From The Author: Jerry the Crabby Crayfish was a real crayfish that was kept in a fish tank and cared for by my husband for many years. He was quite the character and was a bit crabby. He was named by my two middle grandsons and did wave his claws at them if they banged the glass of the tank.

Jerry would let us know when he was hungry by tapping the glass.

He provided much enjoyment for all of us with his antics.

I hope children will enjoy reading about Jerry and learn a valuable lesson.

Jerry won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in 2017!

Jesse The Precocious Polar Bear by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Jesse is a precocious and very intelligent polar bear. He likes to learn about everything but what polar bears are supposed to know. Jesse has a couple of surprising adventures and learns an important lesson.

Review: “Jesse the Precocious Polar Bear” is the fifth in the Spina team’s series of charming kid books that entertain while they instill good values and impart important life lessons. Highly recommended.

From The Author: Jesse the Precocious Polar Bear was written for a little boy I met in Aruba in 2013. When he learned that I was an author he told me his favorite animal was a polar bear. I promised to write a story just for him which I did in 2014. He was thrilled with his book.

Lamby The Lonely Lamb by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Lamby is a very different lamb because of his color. He is very lonely and only wants to be accepted by the other lambs. Find out what lesson Lamby learns when a little girl, Leah, comes to the farm where Lamb lives. Won A Silver Medal from Mom’s Choice Awards.

Review By Amazon Customer: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Another beautiful story. This is another example of colorful, vibrant, rhyming story writing from an accomplished author and illustrator team who go from strength to strength. This wonderful story follows the adventures of one very lonely little lamb. Loneliness is something children understand and appreciate from an early age and is a perfect theme for such a book. This wonderfully told story will engage and educate children. It is easy to read out loud and will resonate also with the adults reading it to their young children. The illustrations, by John Spina are deceptively simple, perfectly arranged and full of color. I love the way the author has followed through from earlier books with that delightful and comical way of ending a book. Just adorable and highly recommended.

Review by Sarah Mazor: The Need for True Acceptance. Lovely Life Lesson for Kids.  “Lamby the Lonely Lamb” is ignored by the other lambs because he is different. Lamby’s coat is purple not white, so the other lambs do not want to play with him. This changed after a heroic act by Lamby, but the little purple lamb was still not happy because he sensed that his new status among his fellow lambs was not due to genuine acceptance. Lamby finally finds happiness when Little Leah, who loves him just the way he is and adopts him. Author Janice Spina and her talented husband, illustrator John Spina, once again relate to children a valuable life lesson in a most entertaining fashion. If you have not already, enrich your kid’s library with “Lamby the Lonely Lamb” and the Spina Team’s previous books, “Louey the Lazy Elephant”, “Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon”, and “Jerry the Crabby Crayfish”.

From The Author: Lamby the Lonely Lamb was written for my four-year-old granddaughter. She asked me to write a story about her favorite stuffed animal, Lamby, and make him purple. It was a challenge but this book won a Silver Medal from Mom’s Choice Awards and my granddaughter was thrilled with the book. Making her happy is what mattered most to me. She has a beautiful smile as you can see on the back cover and is just adorable.

Louey The Lazy Elephant by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Louey is an adorable but lazy elephant who likes to sleep late. One day Louey wakes up to find that the whole herd has moved on without him. Louey is very upset but he is determined to find his herd. Does Louey find his way to his family and friends? Does he learn that it doesn’t pay to be lazy? Take Louey home with you and find out.

Review: “Louey” is a terrific book for young readers. The cute illustrations alone should be enough to keep kids entertained, but Janice Spina goes deeper than that, providing whimsical, easy-to-understand prose and a wonderful moral about the benefits of working hard. Parents searching for a fun, educational children’s book should look no further!

Review by Richard C Hale: Perfect time spent with the granddaughter. A charming story with lovable characters and enchanting artwork that held my granddaughter’s attention and wrapped us in Louey’s world for an afternoon. She loved it and so did I. It’s on our daily ritual of reads now. Louey lives with her every day now and I couldn’t be happier.

Review by Mrs. D. : A great story, which teaches children to overcome difficulties and obstacles!

Grab a cookie and get ready, because you are in for some fun and learning! Louey the Lazy Elephant is one of those beloved books that instantly put a child and parent in a good mood. It will make parents smile, because at some point in our lives all of us have dealt with lazy kids. It will make children laugh, because many of them will recognize themselves as the lazy elephant. This sweet, bouncy story will make them think about their own behavior and learn something good. During the trip of the little adventurous elephant, they will learn about the consequences of not following their parents’ rules.

The story teaches a few good lessons: Not everyone wants to be your friend. Not everyone is as helpful as your mom. Not everyone is sympathetic to your problems. It will also teach children that they should use good judgment in any situation. There is no need to panic if you are lost or do not know all the answers. In addition, it will teach children that there is always a way out and someone who is willing to help. And if you help someone, they will repay you with kindness.

As I followed Louey’s adventures, I was delighted to see how easily the lazy elephant transformed himself into a caring boy who had learned his lesson. Simple and well-thought-out illustrations give a special charm and personal touch to this lively story. I read it to my nephew’s six-year-old daughter. She fell in love with the adorable Louey. As a children’s author and grandmother, I was glad to see her giggling. When we finished reading, she said: “Louey was not lazy, just tired.” Well, that makes sense too. Janice Spina has created a wonderful read, providing great messages for children and grown-ups!

From The Author: Louey the Lazy Elephant is my first published book. Therefore, it holds a special place in my heart. Once I published it and became an author I felt so happy and fulfilled. Being an author has always been my goal in life. It took many years before I could realize this dream which was after I retired. This is also the first book my husband, John, illustrated. He has illustrated all my books ever since including the cover for my novel.

Lucy The Talented Toy Terrier by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book. She loved my spaghetti with homemade sauce, watched TV shows featuring animals, hated baths, “sang” when music was played, and had two cherished possessions, a knotted rag and a ball. I hope you will enjoy reading about Lucy. She is no longer with us and can never be replaced.

S Reviews: 5.0 out of 5 stars. Heart-warming tale about a dog named Lucy. Anyone who owns or had to say goodbye to a beloved pet would appreciate this tribute to a beloved four-legged family member who warmed everyone’s heart. The prolific, award-winning author Janice Spina (who has penned books for kids, young adults, and adults) pays homage to “Lucy, the Talented Toy Terrier,” her beloved dog, in this sweet tale about a dog whose funny and endearing habits are described in rhyme. Ms. Spina brings the reader inside that circle of warmth by sharing her treasured memories of a dog who was part of the family for sixteen years; a dog known to all as Lucy. Just wonderful. Kudos to John Spina for cleverly mixing media, embedding drawn pictures of Lucy on a realistic background of home photos.

From The Author: This book is based on my dog who I had many years ago. She was a special pup, one that cannot be replaced. Anyone who has had a dog will know what I mean by that. No matter how many dogs you may have in your lifetime, they are all different. They all hold a special place within our hearts and will never leave. I miss my Lucy still!

Ricky The Rambunctious Raccoon by Janice (J. E.) Spina.

Ricky is a rambunctious or very active raccoon who likes to wander around to find something new to eat. One night during his foraging for food Ricky runs into all kinds of trouble. Will Ricky get home safely? Will he learn his lesson to listen to his mother?

Review by Eric B. Ruark, author of The Little Tree That Would: Children and parents alike are going to love this little tale of Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon and his adventure when he steps out on his own for the first time.

Ricky wants to run free and thinks that the dark will hide him. Only there are other critters out there in the dark too, and they teach Ricky that maybe, just maybe, there’s a lot of responsibility to “running free”. Ricky learns that he has a lot to learn before he can run free.

Children will enjoy Ricky’s little adventure. It is written in rhyme. Kids will enjoy its lyric quality and they will get a chuckle out of Ricky’s mistakes and gasp at his near misses. They will also enjoy the art work of Ricky’s adventure. I would highly recommend this book to parents of school-aged children. They will certainly want to read this book over and over again.

I think the words of five-year-old J.C. say it best: “Read it again!” Janice Spina’s “Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon” tells a lovely story in rhyme while gently teaching a lesson about rules. The illustrations are perfect with the story, thanks to the other half of the Spina duo, husband John. The Spinas obviously understand what will interest children, how long the story should be, and how to create suspense without scaring young minds. I look forward to sharing more of Janice and John Spina’s children’s books with the little ones and hearing them say “Read it again” each time.

From The Author: Children’s books by Jemsbooks carry underlying themes with life lessons to help children learn to be kind, caring and accepting of others. In Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon the life lesson is that you should always listen to your mother – for “mothers’ know best.”

It is extremely important that children be read to at an early age and often. By doing this parents will create an environment that will promote healthy and happy children and have children who will learn to love books and reading.

My logo is Jemsbooks and my motto is Reading Gives You Wings to Fly!

Thank you for your support!
