Dragut’s Divergence by Geoff Nelder.
Awarded 5 Stars By The Editor At Book Marketing Global Network. Interesting Fact/Fiction Historical Story With A Time Travel Twist That Will Amaze You.
Author Geoff Nelder brings his readers two short stories that are meant to educate and entertain. The book cover is an actual photo taken by the author on Valletta in Malta. The author’s writing style, characters and passion for this time in history brings these two stories to life in a vivid way with a time travel twist that will amaze you.
In the first short story, ‘Dragut’s Diversion’ Author Geoff Nelder takes fact and fiction to tell us who Admiral Rais Dragut (real buccaneer pirate) is. He educates us on Dragut’s abhorrent act in 1551, when he abducted the entire population of Gozo and sold them into the Libya and Constantinople slave markets. He integrates the thoughts of Dragut, dialog from his secondary characters with an immigrant’s point of view to bring us into the reality of illegal immigration. Then he throws in a ‘What If’? It is the twists that create this Historical Fantasy. A must read for historical buffs and those who dare to see the other side.
Quote From ‘DRAGUT’S DIVERSION’: “It is not a mistake, Admiral. Somehow the storm you encountered threw you forward in time by four-hundred and fifty-nine years. Correct place, but wrong time. You missed your Great Siege of Malta.”
The second short story ‘Visit’ is a mini sequel to the historical fantasy novel Xaghra’s Revenge, which was revamped and released as Vengeance Island. Both relate to Malta. It is set in France and the island of Gozo. This tale is based on the true mass abduction of the people of Gozo by the Ottoman corsair, Rais Dragut.
Quote From VISIT: “You know of the Siege of Malta in 1565. If the Ottomans had won, it might have led to a different Europe, indeed the world. The Christians won that battle, but it was tried again recently. A time-traveling rerun of history in an event known to some as Vengeance Island. If the Christians had lost again, it wouldn’t have led to a Muslim power but ours. We could have saved this planet from its current and future troubles. Not to be. Let humans resolve themselves.”
Author Geoff Nelder weaves this time traveling tale with brilliant imagery that brings the reader into the historical event known to some as ‘Vengeance Island’. This story evokes emotion and causes us to rethink history and prompts us to ask the right questions.
In closing, The author lives in rural England within easy cycle ride of the Welsh mountains. I encourage you to read ‘DRAGUT’S DIVERSION & THE VISIT’ along with his many books which include: ‘Escaping Reality’ (humorous thriller), ‘Exit’, Pursued by a Bee (award-winning science fiction), ‘Hot Air’ (thriller that received an award from an Arts Academy in the Netherlands), ‘ARIA’ (science fiction trilogy) and Xaghra’s Revenge, which was revamped and released as Vengeance Island (historical fantasy set in the Maltese islands).
