It was 2010 when I first met Robert and read Bullets and Bandages. He was telling a story told to him by his brother… I don’t think I will ever forget the fact that Robert was the one to write this first story, which set off a career in military fiction writing that continues, this time, with a fascinating thriller that I couldn’t help but think, while reading, Oh, if it were only true…
You see, two scientists have been working on a top-secret level under a military contract and have achieved a major breakthrough. Testing had begun, first on a dummy, then a small animal, and, finally, on a human. Each level of testing was reviewed at the highest level–the President of the United States and he was making the final decision, based upon viewing what happened at each level of testing.
When it reached the final level of testing, of course, it was important that those who would be actually using the MagNanoTron would be those who did the testing. Special Forces Delta Team was the obvious choice. Readers quickly enjoy meeting each member of the team, while participating in the camaraderie during who will be…first… At the same time, this reader took special note that during all that was happening, there was a lot of prayer happening by various characters… This was an important addition for me… It helps to personalize that these are real people participating in something that could be very dangerous, yet, willing to do so because of what the result could be… Our Nation’s Freedom.
Of course it was the scenes between the spy team members and the special forces that turns the book into a thriller… Especially when one of the scientist is kidnapped! Everybody knows that this one individual could recreate the MagNanoTron for that dictator’s country! That was to be prevented! At All Costs!
Because of the MagNanoTron and its potential use, I have not shared much about what is actually happening. You have to read it to believe it… And, again, I say, wouldn’t it be wonderful if it was really possible?!
If you read military fiction, I’d call this a must-read. Thriller readers of all types will also be excited and, perhaps, exhilarated as I was, when the Special Forces Delta Team takes on the kidnappers! Do check it Out!

Author Robert J. Saniscalchi begins his novel ‘BOND OF BROTHERS: DANGER CLOSE’ with a little US Military History lesson (U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines, U.S. Special Forces and the turmoil in Iraq) which I enjoyed reading.
Saniscalchi put his research to work developing an amazing cast of characters and real-life scenarios that draws the reader into the fight. The language is exact, the mission is real and the danger is close. You will want to read this military action-packed suspense thriller. Robert is a suburb story teller and adds a touch of romance to lighten the burden. Let me bring you into the story.
… The story opens with seventeen-year-old Emma Sincol from Brookeville. Maryland wondering whether to follow some of her friends to Penn State or St. John’s College in Annapolis. Her next thoughts turned to the military. What if I join the Navy? Or maybe the Air Force? To her surprise, she found out that she could go to St. John’s, to get into the R.O.T.C. program. She could hang out with Linda and learn to fly.
… “THE GATHERING STORM”: Back at the White House, at the cabinet meeting, the president and Secretary of Defense Lindsey Braham agreed, and the order was given: the United States of America was placed on defense alert status Defcon 1. The military was put on a readiness posture, for immediate response to threats or attacks.
… “THE GOOD AND THE BAD: In the early morning hours, just past 0400, the operator of the new Q-West Patriot Missile Defense System had noticed something on the edge of his screen. It didn’t take long before the Patriot system was on full lock and tracking the inbound target. Inspired by his own brother’s journey in Vietnam war, Saniscalchi’s military action tells the story of nineteen-year-old Patrick, who flew into Vietnam as a US Army Field Medic in January 1968 and went through ordeals of war exercising his tenacity, willpower, and wit. The remarkable quote: “Courage is fear holding on a minute longer,” begins the narrative and paves the way for a fascinating military action tale that explores the deeper meaning of courage and friendship. Saniscalchi’s hero is an ordinary teenager who is barely trying to survive through tenures of war and that’s what gives authenticity to his voice. Saniscalchi writes in a simple prose and successfully combines the pace and tension of an action thriller with thought-provoking examination of true faith, bonds of friendship, enduring family ties, and what it means to be human. The book will appeal to a wide array of readership, including those uninterested in military action. Thoroughly engrossing!
“Five Stars” Review by Bruce Miller (Team Golfwell Reviews): I was given a complimentary copy of this book. However, that does not in any way influence this review of “Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers” which in my opinion is an excellently written and intriguing story. I enjoyed reading “Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers” which is the 3rd Edition of this exceptional and extremely realistic story by Robert Saniscalchi, who in my opinion, is one of the best historical fiction writers about the real horrors of war. The author writes a fast-paced story putting the reader right into the war and all its horrors. I felt the writing was incredibly realistic, frightening and very honestly portrayed the intensity and immediacy of guerrilla warfare with much more drama than if you watched it all happening on a movie screen. Here is a brief excerpt, “I rolled away, as quickly as possible, and most of the explosion went over me, though I felt a sting in my buttocks and arm; I couldn’t hear anything, except the ringing in my ears. I stayed low, in firing position, with my rifle at the ready, and as I turned in the direction the grenade had come from, I could see the V.C., looking to see if he had got me. I fired a burst and he went down. “Their heavy machine-gun fire started again, and I knew we had to take it out. I had the best chance, from my location, so I started to crawl my way to their flank. I found a small ravine and worked around it, drawing closer and closer. When I felt close enough, I pulled the pin on one grenade, then another. Then, I tossed them both and hit the dirt.” In my opinion, I was refreshed to read the way this brilliant author didn’t overdramatize or exaggerate. It was a unique experience for me to read the realism in this author’s style. He ingeniously and very effectively makes you “Walk the walk” in the same intense manner of many very courageous men whose lives were on the line every second of each patrol. All in all, I liked this book very much and the way this brilliant author simply tells the story created a very lasting impression with me. I give this book loud applause for a story well told and recommend it highly. Very well done!”
Matt McAvoy Rated It 5-Stars. It Was Amazing. Robert has clearly put a huge amount of work into this Vietnam war drama. For somebody who never fought himself, but has written this book as a clear tribute to the brave men who fought and died, with help from his veteran brother, the research and passion he has applied to it is admirably on show for all to see. I have read many Vietnam war memoirs, and I can truly say that this is as authentic an account as you will read from an author who was not present; the terminology, feelings of fear and anger of the men thrown into a strange jungle environment, battle procedure and knowledge are collectively a vast and admirable feat, and I respect Robert hugely for the sheer work ethic which I know has gone into writing it. Robert clearly has a great story to tell, which continues even after the principal character’s tour is over – I have not read a war book written from the viewpoint of the field medic, and it was an interesting and welcome approach. This is an honest book – an important book – highlighting the impact of the horrific and hard-hitting realities of war, which Robert so vividly and artfully depicts. There is exciting action in this book, incredibly well written, with some great set-pieces. The author has created a potential ongoing narrative, suggesting that there is real legroom with this cast of characters to continue their exploits after the Vietnam war – I’d even go as far as to say that the potential of their adventures makes for a promising sequel, which I believe Robert has written, with several other books in the series, which I look forward to reading with anticipation. Robert constructs a good story and develops an endearing lead well – for pure hard work, research ethic and attention to detail, there are not many as conscientious as Robert, and I respect and applaud him sincerely for what he has achieved with Bullets and Bandages.

Review Brittany Dalton, Author’s Den: Author Robert J Saniscalchi brings us fictional tale, Freedom’s Light, in a very real, honest exploration of good and evil as related to the harrowing events of 9/11–and the aftermath left in its wake.
Saniscalchi’s story introduces us to his protagonist, Rob, embarking on a family hunting expedition within the quiet wilderness of New York State. The peaceful outing filled with brotherly bonding and banter is short-lived, however, as the characters are soon thrown into the horror of the 9/11 attacks and a subsequent military operation. This is all unfortunately foreshadowed by Rob’s warnings, who understands the fragility of freedom and how it must be protected (or the light will be extinguished). A soldier and patriot, Rob becomes deeply entrenched within an elite team called Light Force. The object of the military operation: To identify the source (a terrorist base in Afghanistan) of another possible attack on US soil, and stop it in its tracks.
The characters are portrayed in a realistic and relatable manner, and the action is well depicted as the reader is soon caught up in the emotion and intensity. Although I don’t usually follow war books, shows, and movies, I particularly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who does enjoy the genre. Saniscalchi clearly demonstrates a thorough knowledge of his subject matter, and his story does not disappoint. Everyone I know was in some way impacted by the events of 9/11, and I can still recall the exact moments in which I came to learn about what had happened. This is a story of bravery and pays tribute to the men and women who selflessly fought to protect the United States from terrorism–and continue to do so today.

This story begins in the mountains of Afghanistan where a group of extremists gathers to plan a shocking attack. By Chapter two, titled Bond of Brothers, which immediately brought my mind to Band of Brothers, however, as I read on the chapter took me to upstate NY. By chapter three, I was drawn into wanting to read more and more. The author, even though it is a harsh terrorizing story, the writer does have scenes that are tender and what it does is allows the reader to relax a bit from all harsh terrorizing scenes. I liked the book. I recommend it to all who like a well-written story with good descriptions.
