5 Star Review: ‘LOOSE BALLOONS’ Children’s Poetry Book Will Delight Readers:
Jill Clark’s book Loose Balloons is filled with short, entertaining, rhymed poems like in “Frog’s The Name,” “Wonderfully Whale,” “The Dream Swing,” “The Ladybug’s Flight,” “Earlobes,” “Bathtub Drain.” “Balloon Bouquet” and many more.
The author recommends this book for ages four to twelve, but as a Grandmother and book reviewer, I would say children those under four would enjoy hearing these delightful poems, seeing the illustrations, even if they can’t yet understand them all. In a time where children experience much stress, this wholesome book for kids is designed to inspire them to read, laugh and explore the world around them.
Here is one example of a delightful poem called “IN THE TREETOP”
…..A pink balloon rested in leaves of a big oak tree.
…..A gust of wind caught it— and sailed it next to me.
…..I reached to grasp its beauty— I strained to make it mine—it blew away as if to say, “Perhaps another time.”
Here is second children’s poem entitled “OCTOPUS PIRATE”
…..Fishing near a wharf one day an octopus bumped my line. He had eight tentacles afloat, dancing arms that rocked my boat—I laughed so hard my tooth flew out (a tooth made out of gold. He flung my tooth into the sky—then winked at me with one-patched eye.
…..“Good plunder me mate,” I heard him say with a gold-toothed grin as he swam away.”
