The Sky Above by A.G.R. Goff
Can the world survive when hate wins?
In the year 2021, a religious civil war rocks the world, destroying civilisation and pitting Muslims against Christians.
Fear rules as looters and rapists control the streets, and people are killed for nothing more than the colour of their skin. Those who survive are left to starve to death or die from lack of clean water.
Brought together by the cruellest of fates, two schoolmates, Mark and Ben—one Christian, one Muslim—band together in a desperate quest for survival. Not knowing who to trust or what the future holds for them, or humankind, they try to stay alive while caring for Ben’s little sister, until a chance encounter changes everything.
5 Star Review: Chapter one of ‘The Sky Above’ opens on 18th of September 2021 in London. A teenage boy named Mark wakes in the darkness of his bedroom with the feeling that something was different. Wandering through the house he finds his parents frozen in front of the TV. It is not a dream, it is not a permeation, it is the new reality. It is the day that changes everything.
*****In this Dystopian Fiction, the world plunges into a global religious war. Global death and destruction along with unrest everywhere, turn Muslims against Christians. The streets are not safe and food and water are scarce.
*****East German Author A. G. R. Goff, uses her story telling ability to focus on the two unlikely friends, given the new world stage. Mark and Ben where school mates and though culture and religion should put these two boys against one another, the struggle to survive builds the bridge needed to put aside differences and work together while caring for Ben’s little sister. It is here that I bring you into the story.
*****They had always been drifting, always prepared to defend themselves. And he remembered that he could never understand why people turned so violent for no reason. He could understand when they were fighting for food and water, but a lot of these people just killed each other for thinking a different way or looking different, too dark, too light, too small, too tall. Any reason was a good one to kill. Sometimes he felt like no normal human was being left. They never felt safe, always imagining someone to be after them, so they had just kept moving. In the beginning, they only tried to stay alive long enough until the government would restore order. But when they heard about the first mushroom cloud, they realised nobody would come and save them. They would just die together with everybody else. If nuclear bombs exploded, even if it was not near them yet, it could only mean one of two things. Either nobody controlled them anymore, and one by one they would explode eventually because there was no working security system anymore or people hated each other so much, that they would use anything against each other, not caring if this would kill the whole planet. He couldn’t be sure but maybe that day had turned him into an atheist, the day he heard about the mushroom cloud. The day the American president and the North Korean ruler finally decided to use their weapons.
The story left me asking myself, would the ones who are lucky enough to survive a war to end all wars, be strong enough to build a new civilization more like Eden or would the cycle of deep-seated hatred in the human heart, begin again?

Message from Author A. G. R. Goff (My Story): As a young child growing up in East Germany I was always conjuring up stories, dreaming of traveling the world and filling my dreamed up stories with colourful characters, sharing them with anyone and everyone who would listen. Since then, I’ve seen the world, lived in different places and progressed quite a bit to formulating longer and more complex stories and sharing them with much larger audiences. As a professional storyteller, I’m adept at using my imaginative thinking and creative flair to bring my stories to life in engaging and entertaining ways.
