Where Can We Have The Party? by Deb Hockenberry

Rating: 5 out of 5

I loved this book by Deb Hockenberry. It’s twenty pages of fun and learning. The animal friends want to have a party for Chimpanzee. Everyone makes a suggestion for the perfect place to hold the big event. Elephant thinks the party should be in his favorite place, the river, but the birthday boy, Chimpanzee doesn’t like water. Snake has an idea, too, but the place he likes is too small. This is a delightful book little children will adore. Not only is the story fun and educational, but the cute, colorful, illustrations are wonderful. Children will want to read this book over and over. It’s sure to keep them engaged and smiling. Congratulations, Deb on a job well done. No doubt your first book will be a huge success. it’s sure to keep them engaged and smiling. Congratulations, Deb on a job well done. Sticky Icky Vicky by Alysia and Michael Ssentamu

Rating: 5 out of 5

Sticky Icky Vicky is an adorable little girl who dreads any encounters with water, even baths.  She would rather do most anything else. Vicky loves playing with her best friends, Rhea and Betty. In fact she enjoys using so much energy that she gets sticky and sweaty.

Readers learn Vicky’s dread of water is not unfounded. She remembers vividly the water accident at the beach, when her dad was a hero. For some time, Vicky listened to a negative voice in her head that kept reminding her if she tries to face her fear, she will fail. But one day she realizes Betty and Rhea have many adventures she could enjoy.

Betty’s birthday arrives and it’s an amazing day for Vicky. She begins to listen to positive thoughts swirling in her head. She gradually enters the pool and has the most fun ever with her best pals. Vicky learned life is full of choices. She could opt to confront her fear by believing in herself.

I loved this story because every child experiences fear and could benefit by learning how to overcome it.

At the end of the book there are discussion topics readers and families can use to define fear and decide the best path for them to defeat it. I believe children will also love the bright, beautiful illustrations. I give this wonderful children’s book a well-deserved five stars.

Chickie And The Great Barnyard Benefit by Bee Urabazo

Rating: 5 out of 5

Chickie and the Great Barnyard Benefit is an adorable tale you won’t want to miss. When a baby chick named Chickie finds a home on Stagecoach Lane, he meets some new animal friends.  Chickie’s friends suffer during a big storm so they plan a benefit show to help the victims. What happens when nasty Derek Lambcelot acts like he’s the only one who has talent? What if the talent show is a failure? Chickie wants to perform in the show, but will he be laughed off the stage?

I loved the story itself and the beautiful ending. The illustrations were beautiful and there is plenty of suspense throughout the book.

This is a wonderful tale for parents and families. Children will adore it and they will benefit from learning about developing your talents, coping with varied personalities, and overcoming obstacles. I give it my highest recommendation.

Eve’s Ducklings by Maria Monte

Rating: 5 out of 5

Eve’s Ducklings is an adorable, gentle story of a little girl who loves exploring the outdoors with her grandpa. The author mentions in the dedication that she had an experience with ducks when she was little and she shared that memory with many others.

In the tale, little Eve longs to hold a baby duck and play with it. She tries to reach the little ducks swimming in the pond, but the tiny birds flee. In the meantime, grandpa warns her to be careful not to upset the Mama duck. Eve is discouraged she can’t play with the ducklings so she and grandpa spend time in the park instead.

Later in the story, Eve has a different idea and the baby ducks enjoy their surprise as well. This little book shows young children how important it is to show kindness to animals. It’s a lovely tale and the illustrations are cute and engaging. It’s the perfect bedtime story little ones will treasure. Children and parents may also notice that if you don’t reach your goal at first, you may succeed by changing tactics.

Congratulations to Maria Monte and Emilie Wiklund for a job well done.

Maya and Squirt’s Mayan Adventure by Sherry Ellis

Rating: 5 out of 5

This exciting story, Bubba and Squirt’s Mayan Adventure, begins when Bubba and his big sister, Squirt, visit their grandpa. They saw a strange looking statue there and grandpa told them it was called an Alux (Ah-loosh), or a Mayan gnome. Shortly after that, Bubba and Squirt use a sled but it isn’t to slide on the snow. Instead, it leads them down a mysterious tunnel where they see various pyramids.

Bubba and Squirt briefly think of going home, but they end up meeting a young girl named Esperanza and her dad. What happens next? Bubba, Squirt, Esperanza and her dad work together to find a crafty thief. Who was stealing the valuable Mayan artifacts? Readers will be mesmerized by the story. They’ll eagerly turn the pages to see what happens next.

This is an engaging story for young readers.  They will also enjoy the extra information at the end of the book, such as the information on the Mayan civilization, the country of Belize, the glossary, and recipes that Bubba and Squirt enjoyed on their journey. I highly recommend it. Another wonderful book by Sherry Ellis. Congratulations on a job well done, Ms. Ellis.
