Requiem For A Queen by Kaylin McFarren.
Gehenna Dark Fantasy Series Book Three.
Forced into captivity by Lucifer and crowned as his queen, Samara Daemonium struggles daily with her identity and daunting duties in Hell. She belongs to a race of Nephalem—hybrid beings who are half angel and half demon—and although she wields the powers of both supernatural species, she has yet to discover her formidable prowess and potential.
In the Outer Rim of Hell, Lucinda continues to plot her father’s demise and her ascension to the throne. Believing Lucifer plans to bypass her as Hell’s next ruler, she kidnaps his new heir and has every intention of killing him.
Meanwhile, Samara is faced with the threat of death for her part in an invasion. Her survival depends on revealing a dark secret, giving her no choice but to depend on Lucifer and his Tracker Demons.
Ultimately, Samara’s journey to self-discovery instills in her the importance of family and friends, and reminds her that belief in the impossible is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.

5 Stars: Samara Daemonium’s strength and resilience never ceases to amaze.
For those of us who are completely absorbed in the dark fantasy Gehenna series by award-winning author Kaylin McFarren, I can only say, “Read on!” For anyone who hasn’t experienced a book in this series, I urge you to begin with book one, Soul Seeker, and continue reading each book in this jaw-dropping series until you reach the end. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did!
Requiem For A Queen (book three) has been highly anticipated, and I assure you, it is well worth the wait. No matter which book in the series you’ve chosen to read, the passion, drama, and intrigue is mind boggling. Demons thrive and battle for power in the “creature world” McFarren has created, and while each story focuses primarily on Lucifer and his power-hungry daughter, Lucinda, a new up-and-coming hero is in making. Samara Daemonium, a Nephilim being, is flexing her muscles in this book and proving she’s a force to be reckoned with.
As this story unfolds, the Red War continues to rage between Heaven and Hell, and Samara Daemonium is being hunted by the entire kingdom of Hell. She finds her way to the sand cave where the Shapeshifter, Onoskelis, is hiding from Queen Lucinda. As if the threat of death isn’t enough, Samara gives birth to Lucifer’s son, wrenching up the tension in this page-turning story.
Lucinda separates Samara from her son and is determined to eliminate the new heir to the throne. While searching for him, Samara is captured by Lucifer once again and faces the threat of death for her part in an invasion. Seeing no way out, she reveals the secret of Papillon’s birth and is ultimately left with no choice but to depend on Lucifer and his tracker demons.
As the search for her son continues, Samara’s strength and resilience is put to the test. But that’s not all. Botis, a demon hunter, is on a quest to find Lucifer and to stop the atrocities committed against angels and humans alike. Are they on a collision course in this complex, plot-driven story? Will Samara end up being a lost soul in Hell or a defiant angel in Heaven?
I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing story from start to finish. If you love dark paranormal stories and supernatural fantasy, be sure to read all three books in the Gehenna series: Soul Seeker, Annihilation and Requiem For A Queen. I understand a fourth book is currently in the works too, and there’s no way of knowing where this fascinating cast of characters will end up next.
Editorial Review (Book Marketing Global Network).
From The Author: According to Perry Bysshe Shelley, “Power, like a disease, pollutes whatever it touches.” In other words, many characters in literature become corrupted because of their quest for power. I fully agree with Shelley that power “pollutes everything that it touches” because having too much power concentrated in the hands of one person leads to a dictatorship and has bad consequences. “Power is the root of all evil” is another interpretation of Shelley’s statement. This idea is demonstrated in the plays Hamlet and Macbeth, both by William Shakespeare, in which major characters lead themselves to their downfall by trying to become the most powerful person in the room. In fact, in both plays many major characters die because of one person’s ambition to become a powerful king.
In Hamlet, Claudius murders his brother, marries his former sister-in-law, and ascends to the throne of Denmark. These three deeds are performed by a shrewd and self-serving man. The king will do almost anything to protect the throne, in spite of knowing that he did not rightfully earn it. He resorts to underhanded tactics such as spying, manipulation, and deceit in order to overcome whatever he perceives as a threat to his supreme position. But what if a power-hungry queen was the culprit in this play? Would she be viewed simply as a figure head and remain neutral with respect to political matters? Or would she be the ultimate bitch? By convention, the queen does not vote or stand for election. She is purely a figure head in more ways than one, and maintaining relevant relationships is her singular focus and primary responsibility.
But what if the queen controlled the military? What if she craved an all-encompassing position in government, like her father before her? What if she could be the ultimate ruler of Hell? Ambition drives this story like many others. But what makes this story unique is the length the queen will go to in order to steal the throne she craves. Doesn’t this make a far more interesting scenario? A tale about the extreme measure a woman would go to in order to obtain the power she believes she deserves? Now, that’s the kind of book I would read and definitely write.

About The Author: Kaylin McFarren has received 48 national literary awards, in addition to a prestigious Golden Heart Award nomination for FLAHERTY’S CROSSING – a book she and her oldest daughter, New York Times/USA Today best-selling author Kristina McMorris, co-wrote in 2008.
Prior to embarking on her writing journey and developing the popular THREADS psychological thriller series, she poured her passion for creativity into her work as the director of a fine art gallery in the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon; she also served as a governor-appointed member of the Oregon Arts Commission.
When she’s not traveling or spoiling her pups and three grandsons, she enjoys giving back to her community through participation and support of various charitable and educational organizations in the Pacific Northwest, and is currently the president of the Soulful Giving Foundation – a non-profit focused on cancer research, care and treatment at hospitals throughout Oregon.
Fun Tidbits:
Kaylin is proud of the fact that her great aunt Bessie B. Cordell, an evangelistic missionary during WWII, was instrumental in opening an orphanage in Tientsin, China and also wrote two published novels, Precious Pearl and Blossoms of the Flowery Kingdom, documenting her dangerous, harrowing experiences.
She keeps a glass of wine close by while writing love scenes, Kleenex on her desk while writing heart breakers, and has been known to empty a box of chocolates when she’s completely stumped.
A consummate “pantser” and perfectionist, she writes and edits as she goes, and uses photographs of models and actors from tabloid magazines to visualize her characters.
She loves her husband of 46 years dearly. However, if Josh Holloway, Hugh Jackman or Ian Somerhalder came knockin’, well… their marriage just might be put to the test.
On A Personal Note: Kaylin sat before her computer writing Flaherty’s Crossing as a source of personal therapy after losing her beloved father to colon cancer. You might say she was angry at him, at God, at the world in general. However, after writing this story, she had the opportunity to really look into her soul and consider the fact that so many other sons and daughters have had to deal with similar and even worse situations.
Rather than a memoir, her novel evolved into a fictional journey which brought about the resolution she needed to find. She never expected this exercise in writing to go to press, touch lives, or win literary awards. But as a result of her good fortune, she has arranged for proceeds from the sale of this book to go directly to the Providence Medical Foundation’s colon cancer research department in her father’s name. She’s now convinced and proudly shares her belief that good things can grow out of the worst times in our lives if you just take the time to open your heart.
