The BookViral Review: A gratifyingly vivid read with depth, intrigue and an edgy narrative, Ben Kilgore leads his readers on an unforgettable journey to an Earth many thousands of years removed from the one we now know.
If Colonization Science Fiction is to be convincing it has to feel utterly plausible and yet far too many releases in the genre prove disappointing and it’s for this reason that Kilgore’s novel stands out.
An insightful writer Kilgore writes with a strong eye for detail to deliver a taut, compelling read. Fans of his previous releases Will Normal Return and Through the Raging Storm will know he has a fine eye for the pressures and poignancies of his characters which combined with his ability to craft an intricate and intelligent narrative rapidly draws his readers in.
Escape From Tridon is world-building at its most thoughtful. Vibrant, bold, yet subtly nuanced to create a genuine sense of time and place. Kilgore understands the devices of truly engaging science fiction and he owns them to take his readers on an unrestrained journey that treats the imagination. There are the requisite elements of action and adventure with the farsightedness of science fiction but there is also a strong element of social commentary as his small disparate group of colonists struggle with new cultural dynamics.
Ultimately though it’s Kilgore’s characters that must take the honours. From his protagonist Commander of the New Dawn, Nireem to supporting characters like Ecurben, Gergin and Enaida each are wonderfully observed, with each bringing a prevailing sense of gravitas to the story, whilst nicely nuanced dialogue adds much to the prevailing sense of authenticity.
With many challenges ahead, not least the presence of intelligent life with which they have yet to make contact, Kilgore has positioned Escape From Tridon as the start of a potentially epic series and he is off to a great start.

Review by Ralph Roggenbuck: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Mind Stretching–Intriguing! Imaginative! Any Star Trek junkies will love it.
Strong characters, just quirky enough that you know someone like that! Enough intrigue and twists to keep it moving forward.
The last chapter is an absolute blast.I did thoroughly enjoy it. Take look at the night sky; you may get a surprise! I had one 55 or so years ago now.
Look UP!
Reality that we are still just beginning to see the edge of our own galaxy; let alone the universe!

A small mountain community is struck by a catastrophic event. Most in the community are evacuated by the military. This is a story of survival in a lawless world until everything returns to normal.
Review by Joshua Grant: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. A struggle to survive when modern society collapses! Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2021. Ben Kilgore depicts the grim tale of a small town’s struggle to survive the apocalypse in Will Normal Return! When a catastrophe plunges the world back into the Dark Ages, humanity must relearn how to survive starting with a small band of people contending with hunger, murder, and desperation. Kilgore takes a very realistic approach to the apocalypse. There are no zombies here, but that realistic tone and the image of what extremes humanity can go to, both good and bad, during times of strife really builds the tension. I also loved that philosophical look at peoples’ yearning for ‘normal’ and what exactly is normal. If you love post-apocalyptic fiction set firmly in realism, come vacate the big cities in Will Normal Return!
