About The Author: Author Michael Slaughter began his career as a Fifth grade schoolteacher in Jefferson County Kentucky. As an elementary school teacher, he developed an Individualized Reading Program for his students. He also read a chapter from a suitable book to the class each day before the lunch period. He read to his own children each night at bedtime. He knew what life was like on a small family farm and had always been interested in Thoroughbred Racing. This book is specifically intended for reading by 8- to 14-year-old, or to be read to a class or a child at bedtime.

Theresa Mangis Sink is an accomplished and an award-winning artist. At one time she was a student in Michael Slaughter’s elementary school class. She has been interested in painting for most of her life, having been inspired by her mother’s fine art. She was also encouraged and supported in her art by her mother-in-law. She is a keen observer of nature and the world around her. This is her first published work and she foresees many more such projects in the future.
