Papaw had been gone away to work for a long time. He missed Malia, so he had been sending her little surprise packages.
This time when Papaw came home, he was bringing Malia a new puppy. She was so excited. Her name is Lily because she is white and tall like a lily flower.
Lily and Malia were instantly best friends.

I certainly enjoyed this one! Malia Gets a New Puppy is as innocent and pure as any story about a girl receiving a puppy from her Pawpaw can be. Pre-schoolers and early young readers will like the easy, relatable storyline. I, for one, will look for more of Bob Freeman’s stories.

My Sister Thinks That She Can Cook by Bob Freeman.
When I was growing up, my older sister babysat for her four siblings a lot. She was about 12 years old when she started. We were all younger than her. As time passed, it was more often and for longer periods of time. Sometimes, she would feed us. Which meant she cooked. We always teased her about some of her meal ideas. The food was always fine, actually delicious, but the sibling rivalry in us made it good teasing fodder. This is a bit of an exaggeration about that time in our childhood.
