Hidden behind the bookshelf in the library is a maze of stacks that change positions when the mood strikes them. Preserving the past and finding lost things is what Sam and his two employees, Annie and Cecily do every day. But when a woman appears on their doorstep from 1891 things begin to unravel.
Between Sam declaring his love for Annie and the arrival of Elizabeth, their guest from the past, another problem presents itself. Jack. And Jack and Annie were once an item.
Things are further complicated when Jack disappears into 1891 with Elizabeth. Sam has to go after him to prevent the future from being disrupted, but along the way he discovers several disturbing details regarding his own past. Meanwhile the future is changing, and people and places are disappearing.
From The Author: The Library of Time is finished. When I began the book I expected another story, but as often happens the characters decided to go in a different direction. Do you like fantasy? Time travel? Other worlds of the future, a mystery, and a good love story? A library that is sentient? Then you will like this book.
I tend to write crossover genre–it’s hard for me to stick with one theme. this one combines a mystery from the past with a world of the future and has many twists and turns in between. The story takes place in 2323, after the world has gone belly up and is beginning to regenerate. It is not the world we know.
There are no more cars, money has been replaced with barter. People live together in community, each person contributing to what the community might need. I want to live there. The first twist happens right away when a woman appears on the stoop of the library. She is from 1891 and looks just like Annie, one of the main characters in the book. The story grows more complicated, the past intruding on the present in destructive ways. What is The Library of Time? If you’ve watched ‘Doctor Who’ think Tardis. Annie has been waiting for Sam’s return from the 1300’s for two entire months. He told her he would be gone one week, his focus on searching out his mother and finding out about the man who fathered him. When Annie finds a book in the stacks that contains the word HELP in large gold letters, she panics. Why didn’t she remember that Sam has lost his magic and needs her to provide him a door to get home? She is now the one in charge of the Library of Time.
The door she conjures looks medieval, her trip into the past easy. But when she reaches Sam she finds out that his reason for sending the message was only a fraught moment in time. He’s happy where he is, fighting for Robert the Bruce in a long-ago war in Scotland. He says he loves her, but at the moment he has no interest in resuming their life in 2324.
Annie is shocked by his attitude, but when she sees him with another woman it’s the final straw. She has to leave. But instead of taking her back to Edge in 2324, the door she conjures takes her to Sam’s mother. Constance is in the same timeline as Sam, and is hugely pregnant.
What Constance reveals pushes Annie over the edge. The baby she carries is Sam, and if the older Sam is killed in battle before the baby is born, Annie and Sam may never meet. And the chances of his survival are slim to none.

How this came about she is not sure. But when she gets the sense that Sam is in trouble, she begs Cecily, her co-worker, to care for her baby daughter while she investigates.
But instead of heading to Atenua, the planet where Sam is, she is accosted and taken elsewhere, a situation that she is not sure how to handle. The worst of it is that Jack is involved and making up stories, or so she thinks.
In the meantime, according to Cecily who contacts her through the ether, her baby is exhibiting strange behaviors, and has disappeared.
But it is her trip from the past back to 2325 that is the most disturbing.
When she opens the door that will take her home, she finds a male figure inside. Is the library now presenting itself in human form? Or is she mistaken about the dark-haired, handsome man acting as a doorman?
