Sam: The Cat Without A Tail by Gloria Lintermans touched my heart. As a mother and grand-mother I think all parents and grand-parents should take the message in this book to heart and share this delightful, well written story with children of all ages.
Sam the cat, is a Manx kitten, which means he has a soft, white, cotton puff for a tail. It isn’t long before he becomes self-conscious that his tail is different from the tails of the cats coming into his yard.
Thinking that he is not welcome to curl up under the tree with his new friends, Sam retreats into isolation.
One day Sam finds out how smart, special and talented he really is and his despair turns to self-acceptance and the ability to join in on the activities around him.
The illustrations by Kristina Tosicare are remarkable. The truth within the story needs to be shared with all children. Any and all attempts to boost the self-esteem of children around us, is our adult responsibility.
Author Gloria Lintermans gives some much-needed advice for parents and grand-parents at the end of this book. I encourage you to pick this book up in print or e-book and share it with the children around you. It is a story for all times.
